Frequently asked questions
What is a muhurat?
A muhurat (muhurta) is an auspicious time chosen for an important beginning — a wedding, housewarming, purchase or ceremony — so that the Panchang elements of that moment support the activity.
How are these muhurats calculated?
For each day we check the tithi, nakshatra, weekday, yoga and karana against the classical rules for the activity, remove Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda and Gulika Kalam, and for samskaras such as marriage exclude Kharmas, Chaturmas, Adhika months and periods when Jupiter or Venus is combust. Our marriage dates are calibrated against published Panchang lists.
Is this enough to fix the final date?
It is a reliable shortlist. For major ceremonies a priest will also check the individual birth charts, the lagna (rising sign) at the chosen time and family or regional customs before fixing the final muhurat.
