Moksha Sannyasa Yoga
मोक्षसंन्यासयोग — Liberation through Renunciation · 78 verses
Summary
The longest chapter draws the whole teaching together. Renunciation means giving up the fruits of action, not action itself. Knowledge, action, doers, intellect, resolve and happiness are each described in their three forms. Each person should follow their own nature and duty, offering it to the Divine. Finally Krishna gives his “most secret” teaching: take refuge in me alone, and I will free you from all sins. Arjuna’s doubts are gone and he resolves to act. Sanjaya concludes that wherever Krishna and Arjuna are, there will be prosperity, victory and righteousness.
Key themes
- True renunciation
- The threefold analysis of action
- One’s own duty (svadharma)
- Complete surrender
