Dhyana Yoga

ध्यानयोग — The Yoga of Meditation · 47 verses

Summary

Krishna teaches meditation: a clean, steady seat in a quiet place, a balanced life — neither too much nor too little food, sleep or activity — and a mind gathered on the Self, like a lamp in a windless place. One must lift oneself by oneself; the mind can be one’s best friend or worst enemy. Arjuna protests that the mind is as restless as the wind; Krishna agrees, but says it can be mastered by practice (abhyasa) and detachment (vairagya), and assures him that no effort on this path is ever lost.

Key themes

  2. 6.2 · Krishna
