Karma Yoga
कर्मयोग — The Yoga of Action · 43 verses
Summary
If knowledge is higher than action, Arjuna asks, why should he fight? Krishna answers that no one can remain without acting even for a moment; the question is how to act. Action done as an offering (yajna), without selfish desire, does not bind. The wise act for the welfare of the world (lokasangraha), setting an example for others. Krishna warns that it is better to do one’s own duty imperfectly than another’s well, and identifies desire as the great enemy that clouds wisdom.
Key themes
- Action is unavoidable — act without selfish motive
- Work as yajna, an offering
