Reading Ashtakvarga

Each planet’s Bhinnashtakvarga gives 0–8 bindus (points) to every sign. The Sarvashtakvarga adds them up — always 337 in total, so an average of about 28 per sign. Houses with more than 28 bindus are traditionally considered strong, and a planet transiting a sign where it has 4 or more bindus in its own Ashtakvarga tends to give good results.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Sarvashtakvarga score?

Above 28 bindus in a house is generally considered strong; below 25 weaker.

Why is the total always 337?

The classical tables give each planet a fixed number of bindus; their sum is always 337, so only the distribution between signs changes.
